Our FAQ Page

Are the Beginning Classes REALLY beginning? I've never danced in my life.

Yes, the beginning classes will teach the fundamentals of the dance, technique, lead, follow, and of course the basic footwork and rhythms.

Do I need a partner?

No, partners are not required, but recommended. Contact us if you don’t have a partner and we’ll see what we can do! We usually have people asking us if there are ‘extras’ in the class. There usually is and it’s nice to know ahead of time so we can say ‘yes’ we have a partner for you in the lessons! We have a link on our website for people looking for dance partners.

What do I wear? What shoes are appropriate?

No dress code, just wear something comfortable. It is easier on your feet and legs if you have smooth soled shoes that don’t ‘stick’ to the dance floor. I recommend using bowling shoes. If you don’t have anything appropriate in your closet, bowling shoes are affordable and the newer ones even look like sneakers! There are companies that sell shoes specifically for dancers. We are a distributor for Very Fine Dance Shoes. You are welcome to purchase shoes through our stock on hand or you may order from a catalog. Delivery is usually in a week.

Should I pre-register or can I show up at the first class?

Pre-registration is always preferred, but showing up is ok. We like to start the classes on time and if we have lots of people registering at the first class, it is difficult to start on time.

Pre-registration is also preferred, because if there are not enough registrations for a class, we have the option to replace the class with one of demand.

What kind of music will be played at the Friday night socials?

We play general music for all venues, country, swing and ballroom. As time goes by, we will do dedicated social dances for each venue.

What about competition dancing and lessons?

We are a social dance studio. Our lessons are focused on the social dancer. If you are interested in competition dancing, private tutoring is available.

Will you teach other dances that aren’t on the schedule?

Yes, the schedule will change every month or two. We will add and drop classes as the market dictates.

The class I want is on a night/day I’m not available. Do you have a solution?

Yes, when we change the schedule as noted above, we will also change what nights dances are taught, giving you the opportunity to learn the dance you want!

Do you teach private lessons? Do you recommend private lessons?

Yes, private lessons are available, by appointment with any of our instructors. You can learn a lot in a short period of time when you are getting individual attention, so I do recommend being tutored. Individuals or couples are $40 per hour, one hour minimum.

I’m getting married in a few months. Can you help with a special "first dance"?

Definitely! We recommend a Waltz or a NightClub Two Step. There are some beautiful tunes for these dances that are very appropriate for weddings and anniversaries. We can even teach your entire wedding party to dance with private group lessons.

I'm a beginner, would I be comfortable at the Friday night dance & lesson?

Definitely! We are a family here, everyone dances with everone else. There are usually a couple of instructors and we always help those that want some help or advice. The lesson before the dance is an 'introduction' to the dance being offered. What more can you get merely $5.00 on a Friday night, good company, good dancing, good fun, and a dance lesson!
